I have been a long time sufferer of acne. I've had it for so long that to be honest, I don't remember a time when my skin was ever clear, and I'm only fourteen years old. I've tried numerous cleansers from Neutrogena to Proactiv, my family doctor even prescribed me two months worth of Minocycline (an oral treatment that kills acne causing bacteria internally). When that had no effect on my skin either, I went to a dermatologist.
There, I was prescribed Accutane and a tretinoin cream. Accutane is a harsh isotretinoin pill that helps get rid of your acne, in most cases, it stops acne for the rest of your life. In fact, Accutane is such a harsh drug that it was banned in the USA. Accutane is the last resort for acne sufferers when nothing else has worked. The normal dosage for Accutane is 40mg pills for three months to a year.
Lucky enough for me, my acne wasn't so bad that I had to take very much Accutane for very long. I was prescribed ninety 10mg pills to take over the course of six months. For the first month, I took a pill a day. Over the next two months, I took one pill every two days. And for the remaining thirty pills, I took three to four pills a week for a couple weeks to two pills a week for a couple of weeks, and finally one pill a week for the last 4 weeks.
The Acctane in conjunction with the tretinoin cream worked to successfully clear my acne and give me the clear skin that I needed to boost my confidence.
